“The Selfie Shootout”: Taking 2013’s Most Popular Word “Selfie” to Advertisements

Having one of the most popular ads on the Internet in 2012, Turkish Airlines knew that in order to do that again, they would have to do something clever. So why not incorporate the most popular word of 2013, selfie, into their next ad.

In a 60-second commercial Turkish Airlines has basketball star, Kobe Bryant, and soccer phenomenon, Lionel Messi, competing from the “best place in the world” with a series of selfies.

These selfies were much more enjoyable than the duck-face selfies we all see on our Instagram feeds. Good job Turkish Airlines!
