Case Study – Guardian Harris Poll

Client: The Guardian, the world’s third-largest news source.

Ask: To generate media coverage surrounding the Guardian US Harris Poll that surveyed Americans about their economic views before the 2024 election. The results were stunning: nearly three in five Americans wrongly believed the US was in an economic recession and the majority blamed Biden.

Strategy/Tactics:  The poll was first shared with POLITICO Playbook and then distributed to top-tier media outlets. The news had widespread national media coverage, chatter on social media—and lengthy discussions on broadcast outlets.

Results: CSPAN’s Washington Journal discussed the poll for nearly an hour; CNBC’s Squawk on the Street discussed it at length; and the results were the lead story on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. (Co-host Carl Quintanilla tweeted the article). MSNBC’s Morning Joe had an in-depth analysis of the poll, and it was the basis for a segment on NPR’s Morning Edition.

Additional coverage included: The New York Times, Washington Post, CNBC Online (picked up by dozens of NBC affiliates including NBC News), Axios, POTUS on Sirius XM, Washington Times, The Hill, Daily Kos, Forbes, Scripps News’ Morning Rush, Bloomberg, YAHOO, News Nation, and hundreds more.   The poll was amplified by social media posts from prominent journalists and notable figures such as the Atlantic’s Derek Thompson, Brian Stelter, Ian Bremmer, Peter Baker, Texas Senator John Cornyn, and more.
